Reading and running Ruby
The documentation and the playground need no account. We store nothing about you on our servers when you use them.
Your browser keeps a few preferences for itself in local storage: your theme and font settings, your recently visited docs, and the playground's editor state. They never leave your browser. Clearing site data removes them.
Most pages set one session cookie. It holds the token that protects forms against forgery. It identifies nothing about you and expires when you close the browser. There are no tracking or advertising cookies.
Posting a job
When you submit a listing we store what you type: the company, title, location, pay, description, skills, and links. Once approved, all of that is public on the board.
We also store two email addresses. The application email is published on the listing as the way to apply. Your email is never published. We use it only to tell you when the listing is reviewed.
Who else sees it
We run search ourselves. Listings are indexed by a Meilisearch instance on our own server, and no email address is indexed. Beyond that, these services process data for us:
- Cloudflare proxies all traffic to the site. On the job form it also runs the Turnstile bot check, which sees your IP address and browser details.
- Postmark sends our email. It receives the recipient address and the message.
- Slack receives an internal notification for each new submission. That notification includes your email address, so we can reply to you.
- Sentry receives error reports when something breaks. Email addresses are filtered out of those reports before they leave the server.
- jsDelivr is where our server fetches the Ruby runtime and two scripts for the playground. Our server caches those files and serves them to you itself, so jsDelivr sees our server's address, not yours.
- Our hosting provider stores the database and runs the servers.
Request logs and rate limits
Like every web server, ours records the IP address and path of each request. Those logs rotate automatically and are kept for a short time. Rate limits also count requests per IP address, in memory only, and the counts vanish when the process restarts.
How long we keep it
Live and approved listings stay for as long as they are published. We delete the email addresses from a declined listing 6 months after it is reviewed, and from an expired listing 12 months after it expires. The listing text and our review record stay, so we can account for our decisions.
If a listing is used to abuse the board, we may keep a separate record of the address used, so we can decline it again.
Your rights and how to have it removed
You can ask to see, correct, or delete anything we hold about you. There are no accounts, so we do this by hand. Write to [email protected] from the address you used to post, and we will act on it and confirm.
Changes
When this page changes, we update the date at the top. Material changes to what we collect will be visible on the job form itself.
